LBS Software Development Engineer (GPS)

Products that include Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation functionality are emerging as a consumer favorite, with the technology being integrated into personal navigation devices (PNDs), mobile phones and other mobile devices.

GPS systems use faint radio signals from orbiting satellites to determine precise ground locations, enabling advanced navigation and location-based services in next-generation mobile products. In addition, GPS receivers can provide vital location information for emergency personnel. GPS solutions based on Broadcom technology are shipping today in PND products from the leading device makers with future products positioned to leverage Broadcom's deep portfolio of complementary mobile technology products.

Our semiconductor solutions bring IndoorGPS® technology to the full spectrum of mobile wireless devices, including handsets, smartphones, PDAs and other wireless devices. Our A-GPS and LBS network infrastructure products and data services power the global location services of our mobile operator customers.

As part of the LBS team, this experienced software engineer will be responsible for development industry leading LBS hybrid software on Client and Server. Responsibility will include working with various cross-functional teams within Broadcom and writing API libraries.

Duties and Responsibilities include:
• Design, develop and test/debug Client and Server SW applications and device drivers for LBS library
• Provide in-depth support in resolving complex software issues
• Design, develop and support new LBS library architecture and API
• Work with multiple Broadcom teams to enhance LBS services through hybrid implementation.
• Give advice in wireless communication standards related to A-GPS as well as technical support during Interoperability Tests with Network Equipment vendors or even live cellular networks
Job Requirements : Typically requires a BS degree in software engineering or computer science and 12 years of experience, an MS degree in software engineering or computer science and 9 years of experience or a PhD and 6 years of applicable experience

• Experience with at least one of Linux/Android, Windows Embedded CE / Windows Mobile, Nucleus or desktop Windows (device drivers)
• Proven recent skills in (embedded) SW programming in C/C++ (C# and/or Java are a plus)
• Previous experience with GPS receivers and/or protocols used with Assisted GPS are a plus
• Understanding of wireless systems in general (GSM, WCDMA, WLAN, mobile telephony)
• Ability to operate lab test equipment and basic knowledge of digital hardware and radio frequency concepts
• Proven skills with Object Oriented Development
• Experience with writing API libraries
• Self-reliant, self-motivated, able to work multiple tasks under pressure and to tight timescales.
• Ability to successfully interact with customers, good presentation skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
