Sr. Principal Test Engineer / Architect
Networking Products and Embedded Software
We are seeking a highly-skilled Principal Test Engineer / Architect to join a focused and professional team engaged in the testing and quality assurance of embedded networking software and turnkey solutions.
The successful candidate will have specific and deep knowledge of the internal operation of all Ethernet switching, TCP/IP routing protocols and hardware in both a wired and WLAN environment, preferrably with a Tier 1 network equipment manufacturer. It is a must to have at least 15 years experience testing large enterprise network configurations including applications or be the main individual responsible for running a Fortune 100 level network. We are not seeking a person with CDMA or voice switch backgrounds.
This is NOT a junior or even a mid-level position. We are seeking an individual with design-level embedded knowledge who can implement solid testing strategies at a test architect level, work intimately with senior development engineers comfortably to understand product specifications and suggest testability and robustness improvements. Experience with code-level support and development of such products in response to customer field issues is a plus.
This person would also have excellent customer-facing skills in order to extract customer quality requirements and translate them in test plans either over the phone or in person. This position could involve up to 5-10% travel.
This individual would be a direct contributor acting in a staff-level capacity reporting directly to the Sr. Manager of Testing and Quality Assurance.
Job Requirements : Responsibilities:
• Work closely with product development teams, including direct and detailed interaction with software engineering teams.
• Develop test strategies and plans to improve the effectiveness and productivity of the team, including methods, cutting-edge tools and processes.
• Participate in test team activities including planning, tracking, reporting, and support of test cycles.
• Support a culture of continuous improvement via defect analysis, Tech Support issue review and customer feedback.
Requirements:
• Highly motivated self-starter; ability to use own initiative, drive decisions and create direction.
• Direct experience of working in a software test environment, preferably in embedded communications or running/maintaining/troubleshooting a very large enterprise network infrastructure.
• Experience with testing the design of complex software features.
• Ability to apply an innovative approach to solve complex problems.
• Knowledgeable of current state-of-the-art network equipment testing practices.
• Experience working for a multi-site organization, with off-shore facilities, and the challenges and advantages they present is a must.
• 15 or more years of direct experience with networking products and protocols is required
• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering-related field is required, masters is preferred.
